Serious Skin Care is probably one of those things that we fail to realize its importance. Our skin is the human body’s largest organ, keeps us cool or warm and provides protection for us against bacteria right down to dehydration. It is our first line of defense, yet, how well do we protect it? There are some basic, easy steps we can follow to help our skin, and in return help ourselves.

Daily care is a must. Don’t allow yourself to get into the habit of using products like deodorant soap on your face. This can cause drying, cracking and flaking. Instead, use products made for your type of skin. Make sure that the product you are using is for daily use because many scrubs and care products contain Salicylic Acid and used in combinations with other products it can cause drying and irritation.

There are some skin care products that contain alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA), that not only make your skin more sensitive, but, there is a proven risk for sunburn. You will find on some products a warning label about AHA. It is a good idea to read the labels carefully on any products your purchase. You do not want to risk any serious side effects.

Block that sun! You have been hearing it for years now, but it’s important enough to say again. “Use your sunblock!” While the brand is up to you, most dermatologists recommend a broad spectrum SPF30, one which blocks both UVA and UVB rays. It also doesn’t hurt to reapply after swimming or exertion. Remember you can get a sunburn skiing the slopes too.

Don’t forget to protect your lips either. Women using shiny glosses for that summer shimmer can be endangering their skin more. You needn’t give up that summer favorite, just put a layer of lip balm or gloss which has sunscreen in it.

Covering up before you go out can also help you protect your skin. A light weight shirt can cover shoulders and arms and help prevent sun burn and damage. A hat can be worn to help protect the nose, forehead, scalp and ears. These areas get the most exposure so a little additional care can’t hurt.

Finally, hydrate from the inside out. The first part of your body to show the symptoms of dehydration is your skin. While the latest hydrating lotions may put moisture on the surface, you also require the moisture from within.

Your skin has to last your entire lifetime. Having the correct products for your serious skin care will help you to take care of your skin as it takes care of you.
